THE FUN AND DIRTY BUSINESS OF FILM DISTRIBUTION w/ Felix Werner & Kathrin Werner
Sometimes fun but mostly dirty, distribution is the end game for the filmmaking process. As a creative be smart and control your own destiny… as best you can. A brief intro to film sales and distribution: past, present and future.
Felix Werner grew up surrounded by actors and filmmakers. As a result, he initially wanted nothing to do with the film industry. After studying Art History at UCLA he began his career in the Education Department of the L.A. County Museum of Art. There, he slowly found himself straying into the museum’s film department and finally acknowledged he could not escape the affliction. He really LOVED movies and storytelling. Werner then worked on a variety of studio film sets gaining considerable production experience. Today, Werner works as an independent film financier, executive producer, director and distributor. He started Modern Media Company with his wife Kathrin, to have the ability to develop and produce films with a wide variety of budgets, and to see them through the distribution process.
Kathrin Werner began her career working as a financial consultant in Europe. She then moved to Los Angeles, studied film at UCLA and worked extensively in production before becoming Vice President of International Sales for Motion Picture Corporation of America. She later worked as a sales agent for Capitol Films and assisted European entertainment companies as a segment producer and consultant. Currently, Werner divides her time between running a successful international real estate business and consulting on Modern Media Company financing and development deals.
