We Make Movies member, Michael Coady is a representative for the Brasov International Film Festival & Market, July 19-29, 2012, in Brasov, Romania. If you have a feature that you are looking to submit to this festival he can help facilitate your entry. He would love to see the work of the We Make Movies community on the world stage in Romania.
Here are some details on the festival:
- We will be making 99.9% of the decisions by the end of May.
- We are not charging a submission fee this year. The filmmakers will just have to cover the cost of mailing a DVD copy of their film to us.
- The festival will be screening digital only (from DVD or tape); no print required.
- We accept all films (definitely no SAG restrictions).
- Minimum runtime 84 minutes.
NOTE ABOUT THE FILMS: we would like that the films we select for the Competition section (the 9 films) are World Premieres or European Premieres, when possible. - Each film will have one evening screening only. The festival has 11 evenings in total; evening #1 and #11 are reserved for films out of competition and the award ceremony. So, the selected films (9 in total) will each screen on one of the remaining evenings. Maybe we can make exceptions and have the films screen during the day too (depending on popular demand) but we will not know this until then.
- At least one representative of each selected film must attend the festival. The representative should be a key production member such as an actor, director, producer… Of course, the target is also to promote the festival and get people to attend.
- There will be no cash prizes accompanying the award. Winners will receive a trophy (re-production of the gold bracelet that is part of the festival’s logo). A major benefit of being selected in the festival is that filmmakers can have the European Premiere of their films without the usual costs associated with one and, they may even get distribution proposals in Romania and maybe Europe. To name a few more benefits: as you see, we take 9 films ONLY which means that each film will “own the day” on which it screens; on that day, all media attention will be focused on that film alone (all articles, press releases, TV interviews, etc.) – no film will be lost in the crowd!
