Robert is a seven-year-and-counting Angeleno whose first job in Tinsel town was as an extra on SpongeBob Squarepants The Movie (it’s all about the glamour, baby). Since then he has studied improv at the Groundlings and UCB, and acting at Playhouse West, and with Billy Cowart.
As a writer, Robert’s influences include Aaron Sorkin, Joss Whedon, and David Mamet (minus the misogyny and metronome). He is attracted to exploring the darker emotions and motivations of characters, and firmly believes the unspoken is far more important than the spoken.
On Directing: Mamet once wrote, “It’s not the actor’s job to be dramatic — that’s the writer’s — it’s the actor’s job to be truthful.” The director’s job, then, is to spot when the actor is hiding the truth from the camera and him/herself, and help them bring it out.
As an added bonus, he also knows the only thing that rhymes with “orange” in the English language.
