FCP X: a dose of Sanity from the New York Times

Hey, Sam here… I’ll be posting my thoughts about the new Final Cut soon. I have the program and happen to be in the minority of people who actually love what Apple’s done with this. What’s strange, though, is that as a professional editor and colorist that makes his living from the FCP ecosystem and delivers regularly for broadcast tv, if you’ve been reading the hysterical reviews and message boards, I’m apparently supposed to hate it and feel like Apple just murdered my dog. I don’t.

Amazingly, though, it took a non editor, David Pogue of the New York Times, to actually post something rational about the new Final Cut (why Apple didn’t just write something like this is beyond me… they’re their own worst enemy sometimes). Anyway, here’s a calm, rational explanation of what’s different in FCP X, what’s missing, what’s coming soon, and why you shouldn’t jump off a cliff because things are different:

And to all the FCP editors out there who are absolutely losing their minds and rioting in the streets (especially the ones who haven’t used the program and haven’t bothered to read the manual)… my overall thoughts to you would be:

Chill the fuck out. Seriously.
