Just recently Netflix announced new pricing for their users and in that new pricing was a first time ever streaming only option. Just recently they also announced, through a (i’m linking to Etrade b/c the Newswire link didn’t load well for me) news release, that they are partnering with a distribution / production company to air the distribution comapnies films on a First-Run basis. This means that instead of going to Cable first these movies are going to go straight to Netflix. This news is only going to heat up the already tense battle that is being waged between Netflix, Comcast and Level-3 Communications. If you aren’t familiar with what is going on you should read the following article on E-trade “Comcast in Dispute Over Netflix Downloads”. Basically Comcast has said that the amount of bandwidth used by Netflix subscribers is so large that they (Comcast) should be able to charge more ($$$$). The Fcc is already interested and we’ll see where this one goes.
No matter what happens above be ready for Netflix to become a massive player in entertainment (they already are of course) but what I mean is be ready to see Netflix Productions- because it won’t be a surprise when it happens.
